Italy is so good. I get that everyone knows it, but it’s so good being a tourist in Italy.

This selection of photos is from a trip I took to Ischia with Callum, a life-long friend of mine, and his partner, Claudia (yes, third wheel again, I got pretty good at it).

As usual, the trip began with an early flight from London (off the back of little sleep) which led to a long day ahead, a plane, a port and a Naples. Also our accommodation was up in the mountains with a driveway so steep and dilapidated the taxi driver refused to drive down it and we had to walk the rest of the way (the driver couldn’t even confirm if the house was there or not). Anyway, she took all the cash we had left and drove off into the beautiful Mediterranean sunset. We walked the extra half kilometre in the heat to arrive at an incredible house with a view over the ocean and of that same sunset.

We woke up the next morning with the aim to submerge the noggin, find food and hire motorbikes, a list that seems pretty straight forward but nah… we were way up the mountain and the bus just never came… it was too far to walk in the heat. When we did make it to the coast, we couldn’t hire any form of transport, something about the Australian drivers license - I don’t blame them to be honest.

Luckily, Claudia is a little bit Italian, with family in Campania, of which the gentleman at the last car hire resonated with. So much so in fact, he gave us a car for cash and no deposit, it was wild.

This was the turning point, from here on in was all smiles!

We found epic little beaches and bays, beautiful walks and general travel banter that comes with a 20 year old panda fiat, including a 50 point turn in the driveway to avoid reversing 600 metres vertically up hill.

Anyway, our final day on the island we hired a boat, forgot the sunscreen and cruised around the island. This day was something else… we anchored at the foot of cliffs with the bluest of all oceans below and no one in sight. We couldn’t believe it.
